The Art of Business: What It Means to the People of BTA

In the original Art of Business blog, we revisited the earliest days of BlaineTurner Advertising—a story built not on formal plans or predictable paths, but on curiosity, preparation, and a belief that understanding people is the foundation of meaningful work.

Today, that philosophy continues through the people of BTA. We asked team members what The Art of Business means to them, and their reflections reveal that it’s not a single idea—it’s a blend of creativity,

Business as Human Connection

For many at BTA, the art of business begins with relationships. Content Strategy & Research Director Syd Webb connects it to the idea that business, at its best, mirrors the art of human care: “business is more than campaigns and KPIs… [it’s] building relationships that spark trust.” To Syd, the art is in knowing clients as people first.

Video Producer Ben Dyer echoes that sentiment, focusing on the meaning in the process, not just the outcome. He sees the art of business in “the conversations you have, the choices you make, and the way you treat people along the way.” For him, the experience itself is part of the goal.

Strategic Communications Coordinator Taylor Islay ties the idea to mentorship and the relationships that shape a career. She reflects that “the connections you make with people along your professional journey… [are] what will benefit you… in the long run.”

Together, their perspectives reinforce one core truth: the art of business lives in human connection.

Where Creativity Meets Strategy

Others see The Art of Business in the interplay of imagination and discipline—two elements BTA was built on from the beginning.

Account Coordinator Courtney Bearer describes it as “blending creativity and artistry with strategies that deliver real results.” For her, the art is also in balancing competing demands and growing through the challenge.

CEO & President Sarah Rogers sees the art in problem-solving: “We design thoughtful marketing and advertising solutions that meet our clients’ most pressing needs.” In her view, creativity becomes art when it meaningfully moves clients forward.

Vice President Stephen Rogers emphasizes accountability as part of the craft. To him, the art of business is “being thoughtful with a campaign’s design… [and] making sure every step is professional, intentional, and backed by measurable results.”

SEM Manager Mike Davis distills it simply as: “BTA is where Creativity meets ROI.”

Across roles, the theme is consistent: the art is in making creativity work both beautifully and effectively.

Expression, Empathy, and Shared Vision

For BTA’s visual storytellers, the art of business is where personal expression meets client purpose.

Senior Graphic Designer Becky Hutchinson explains that “art” is creativity, while “business” is delivering something meaningful for someone else. Her goal: create work that satisfies her artistic vision and produces results for clients.

Art Director & Media Specialist Galen Shaffer describes art as “a vehicle of expression… [that] becomes more of an extension of the client's soul” within a business setting. He sees the art of business as a blend of creativity, listening, compromise, and empathy.

Their perspectives highlight that the art of business often lies in the collaboration itself—transforming a client’s goals into visual experiences that resonate.

A Collective Definition

While each perspective is different, they share the same undercurrent: The Art of Business at BTA is about connection, purpose, and creativity.

It’s about:

  • Knowing clients deeply and building trust that lasts.
  • Blending art and strategy to solve real challenges.
  • Honoring the process (and the journey!)—not just the result.
  • Expressing ideas that help clients communicate who they are.
  • Growing through relationships that shape careers, and ultimately communities.

Just as the founder’s story showed that preparation, empathy, and curiosity set BTA apart from the very beginning, today’s team continues to define—and redefine—what The Art of Business truly means.
